2026 Updates: Victory of Kibaaju Charity Kamuhanda upheld as NRM Election Dispute Tribunal dismisses petition against her

The NRM Election Dispute Tribunal has dismissed the election petition by Hon. Rita Atukwasa and Ms Bonnie Kiconco Kashaija Mutungi challenging the victory of Hon. Kibaaju Charity Kamuhanda in NRM primaries for Mbarara City Woman MP seat.

The Tribunal has therefore upheld the victory and Hon. Kibaaju Charity Kamuhanda has for the second time been confirmed the NRM Flag Bearer for Mbarara City Woman MP seat come 2026.

The part of the statement from the ruling says,” In light of the findings, the Tribunal finds that the Petitioners (Rita Atukwasa and Bonnie Kiconco Kashaija Mutungi) have failed to discharge the required burden of proof and are not entitled to any of the remedies sought”.

And the resultant orders are that Petition Numbers PT-185-2025 and PT-270-2025 are hereby dismissed.

The declaration of Ms. Kibaaju Charity Kamuhanda, as the duly elected NRM Flag Bearer for Mbarara City Woman Member of Parliament is hereby upheld.

After the ruling, excited Kibaaju Charity Kamuhanda told this website that the will of the people has been respected. “We have them again,” she said as she celebrated once again.

Airtel Uganda Pays UGX 50.3 billion Dividend to National Social Security Fund (NSSF)

Kampala : Airtel Uganda, a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, on Friday presented a dividend cheque of UGX 50.3 billion to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). This significant payout follows NSSF’s strategic acquisition of shares in Airtel Uganda during the company’s initial public offering (IPO). This payout follows Airtel’s 2023 decision to list in Uganda, becoming the second telecom company on the Uganda Securities Exchange. The company offered 8 billion ordinary shares representing 20% of its equity at UGX 100 per share.
