Minister extends support to Bulambuli distaster victims

The Minister of State for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Hon. Lillian Aber has visited Bulambuli District and on behalf of Government extended support to 24 households affected by recent landslides in the Distric t. The victims are being accommodated at Namisuni Sub-county headquarters. The minister said Landslide is still a big challenge in the Bugisu Sub-region. “Today, I was in Bulambuli District and I held a stakeholder meeting following the incident that occurred on Sunday 26th of October 2024 leaving over 464 households affected. They are apparently being sheltered at the sub-county headquarters awaiting relocation to the land that was procured by the government in Bulambuli District,” Hon. Lillian Aber said. She called on local leaders to mobilize people who are leaving along areas which are already spotted with cracks to kindly accept and join the team being relocated to the secured safety zone. Under this partnership, the organization targets to incorporate over 7,500 SAACOS and village savings and loans Associations from the west Nile districts of Nebbi, Yumbe, Arua, Koboko, Moyo, and Adjumani. Launched by Post Bank in 2023, Wendi mobile wallet is a mobile money service platform designed to promote financial inclusion to all Ugandans by enabling them to securely save and manage their finances conveniently and offers financial services to undeserved and last mile customers, access, manage and transact funds efficiently. Bunyoro, Buganda Regions Have Highest Number Of Households Engaged In Commercial Farming-Report

The 2024 National Population & Housing Census report has revealed that the highest percentage of agricultural households (53%) undertook agricultural production mainly for home consumption and 27 percent for only home consumption. The report reveals that 17.1% of the households in Uganda engaged in agricultural production mainly for sale. According to the report, 62 percent of households in Uganda are engaged in agriculture as at May 2024 compared to about 80 percent reported in the 2014 Census. The report reveals that households engaged in crop growing are 61 percent compared to 75 percent reported in census 2014. In addition, 37 percent of the households are engaged in livestock keeping compared to 58 percent in the 2014 census. The results reveal that there are more households engaged in crop and livestock (22 %), followed by those engaged in crop growing only (21%), while those keeping livestock were three percent.
